Not impressed
I'm always in search of a good pillow as I have a large head (or so I'm told!) that squashes pillows down in my nightly 8 hour sleeps plus snoozing in a little extra on the weekends.I usually have to cycle a pillow a year or so as they get flattened too much.So when I had the opportunity to try the Obus Forme memory foam pillow I was just ecstatic!Upon unboxing, I found the pillow's container to be neatly packaged into a quality cardboard box.This would make an incredible first impression if you were giving it out as a gift. I then took the pillow out and thought "Hmm, did they send me the wrong one?It looks like a travel pillow!"
No, it was the correct pillow, the full size model.However, the pillow was very small and not very fluffy as typical quality traditional pillows are.I had a hard time using this pillow to adapt to my usual height of a traditional pillow.But I did give it a try.
Almost immediately after laying on the pillow, I immediately noticed the scent of the pillow itself.Being memory foam, I've been told these give out peculiar odors.Note the odor was not offensive to me, but it was strong enough to overpower everything else in the room.It's hard to relax to sleep with this kind of strong smell literally in your face.I do believe the smell will eventually go away (or will it?I will update in the future)
I simply could not get comfortable on this pillow after giving it a full hour's worth.For one thing, the pillow got uncomfortably warm.I sleep in a non-AC room of upper 70s temp so I enjoy cooler pillows.Memory foam does have a tendency to retain heat.With a hot head, I just couldn't fall asleep.To top it off, the pillow was too low for me and I couldn't adjust to that.Sure, I could put it atop a traditional pillow (and eventually did that) but that made it too high and uncomfortable.I toss and turn to get comfortable, so the conformity factor was something that brought about interest to me.This model claims that the memory foam conforms to your body but I do not believe that one bit anymore.The entire pillow got flattened by my head after a while, like the cheap old pillows you find in a dilipidated motel. If I changed positions, the pillow just remained squished. After a few more hours I could not bear it anymore and threw the pillow across the room, reaching back for my old pillow.
I repeated my test with this memory foam pillow another night to give it a fair shot in case I was just having a bad day the first time.No dice.Basically the same thing happened, although I didn't bear to wait several hours in discomfort this time.This pillow was simply overpriced, gimmicky, and didn't perform any better than a cheap pillow would.
In all, I say this might make a nice gift for x-mas or a housewarming present, with its neat packaging and novel idea.However, at the street prices, I would never buy it for myself.
UPDATE:The odor has gone away, so no worries there once this unit is aired out.I'm finding this pillow still unusable for my head, BUT I find this makes a great softener to insert between my knees when I lay down sideways.This is as a regular pillow is too thick, but this Obus Forme is just right for that and its memory foam seems to support my knees quite well.

I bought this pillow (9x15) to complete my baby's crib. Even though babies should sleep on their back and without a pillow, I wanted one just in case and because the crib looks nicer with it. But I definitely wanted an organic one, with no chemicals for my baby to breath in or be close to (I also bought an organic mattress... there are researches that show that fire retardant chemicals in crib mattresses along with extra pillows and bumpers could be related with SIDS.. I believe it's worth the extra money).
